Jessica Crow
Pinetree Lady Pirates

We asked Jessica about whether she dreams about ever playing in the WNBA and she said:

"I think every girl that has ever played basketball has once in her lifetime dreamed about playing in the WNBA. I mean what a life! Getting paid to play basketball; who wouldn’t love that? I even remember sitting in the arena in Houston at the Championship game between the Houston Comets and the New York Liberty in the 6th grade. I was looking around during the half time show and I remember asking my mom who the people were on the front row. She told me they were the family members of the players and at that moment I told my mom that one day she would get to sit in those seats. Of course I’ve grown a lot since then and I realize what a big dream that is. I don’t like to get my hopes up and so I’m not. But if I know one thing it’s never to give up on your dreams."

The new Lady Pirate Head Coach is Jeremy Durham and he is very excited about getting the chance to coach a player with such lofty goals as Jess.

Coach Durham says Jessica has "a complete game, with amazing versatility. She can play the point, post up, & do everything in between. Jessica can be vocal when she needs to be, but she is a great leader by example. She plays the right way and expects everyone else to follow. Jessica fills up a boxscore."

Coach Durham is very optimistic about 2006. He said, "We only lost 3 players from last years team, and have a very strong Senior class, including Jessica's twin sister Kristi who was a 1st team All-District player. Another returner is our point guard Jessi Goodman, who was also a 1st team All-District player. We feel like we have as good a shot as anyone to get to the Regional tournament, and hopefully make a run to Austin."

We asked Jess:

Q: What are your hopes for your senior year?

A: I want to go to state! We were always told that the only way we would be at the state tournament would be as a spectator. I want to prove those people wrong! Two years ago we set a school record by going farther than any other Pine Tree team by reaching the Semi-Final game at the Regional Tournament. This last year didn’t turn out like any of us had planned and we only made it into the Area game, but we set another school record for the most wins in a season. Next year would be a great opportunity to set a school record by showing up at the state tournament! This is also my last year to play with my twin sister and I want to make it as memorable as possible.

Q: How can you help your team reach its goals?

A: We have a very talented group of girls that have played together for a long time in City League and AAU ball. We work together very well and have a balanced attack. I hope to set a good example for my younger teammates, on and off the court, to help my team reach our maximum level of play. I like to talk a lot which often leads to me jabbering away on the court. However, I feel I am as much a silent leader as a vocal one.

This year Jess will be a 4th year Varsity starter.  Her sophmore year she made all district. As a junior she was selected MVP of the district, and was selected All-State.  She has been academic all district each year.

Jess and Max

Gordon Loucks lists Jessica Crow as the 50th best player in the 2006 class.

We asked Jess:

Q: Have you committed to a University?

A: No, I have not committed to a University. I have been contacted by both basketball and volleyball college coaches but have not verbally committed to a specific University.

Q: What do you hope to study in college? And what is your career plan?

A: I have narrowed my major to Speech Pathology and Nursing. I can’t decide what I want to be when I get out of college. I guess I haven’t really taken to time to look that deep and really think about everything. I definitely want to stay in Texas for the rest of my life! I love it here and I couldn’t imagine leaving my family!

Jessica's twin sister Kristi is a formidable player, as well. Her career was derailed a bit as a freshmen when she blew out her knee. But Kristi is the Lady Pirates' second leading scorer and a crucial part of their balanced attack.
